Our present company was established in 1958. The dedication service of
the newly formed 5th Kirkintilloch Company was performed by the Rev Mr
Frank Haughton on 2nd November 1958. The Company was later presented
with Colours which are to be seen at all Official Company parades.
The original Captain of the Company was John Dickson who remained in
Charge until 1963. Subsequent Captains have been James Devine
(1963-1974), John Lang(1974-1979), Tom Leishman (1979-1989) and Jim
Cuthbertson (1989-1998) at present the Company does not have a Captain
.
Since its inception, the 5th has taken part in all local and national
activates of all BB.
When the Company was formed in 1958, the younger organisation, the
called the Life boys, also began. This organisation deals with boys from
8-11 years of age and prepares them for promotion to the senior ranks.
The objectives are the same, based as the Company section.
Spiritual, Physical, Interest, Adventure and Community.
The Officers in Charge of the Junior Section were:-
Archie Smith was the leader of the “A” section until 1989
Stephen McKean from 1989 until April 2008
The Junior Section had a “B” Company in the 1970‘s lead by Iain Little
but due to numbers the boys were transferred to the “A” section in the
late 70‘s.
